Pheochromocytoma arising from the organ of Zuckerkandl

Abstract
|
|
|
Pheochromocytoma is an uncommon neoplasm arising mainly from adrenal medulla and rarely other ehromaffin tissues.
Extraadrenal pheochromocytoma comprises about 10% of all,pheochromo cytoma and usually produce norepinephrine exclusively.
The organ of Zucherkandl is paraganglia lying along the abdominal aorta with, highest inci-dence in the region of the interior mesenteric artery and usually degenerate shortly after birth.
Twenty-three cases of pheochromocytomas arising in this region were reported till 1969. In the literature, and additional two cases of pheochromocytoma arising in the organ of Zuckerkandl which were experienced recently in the SNUH are presented in this report.
